// STARLINK  --INSTALL

Starlink Installation & Setup

Satellite internet for rural Mid Canterbury. I handle the full setup — dish, mounting, router, and network — so you just connect and go.

// What is Starlink?

Fast, reliable internet.
No phone line required.

Starlink is SpaceX’s satellite internet service — designed specifically for rural and remote areas that can’t get fibre or reliable ADSL. A small dish on your roof connects to a constellation of low-orbit satellites, delivering speeds typically between 50–200 Mbps with low latency.

For farms, lifestyle blocks, and rural homes in Mid Canterbury — where the copper has always been unreliable and fibre isn’t coming any time soon — it’s genuinely the best internet option available right now.

// What I handle

Full installation — start to finish

--site-survey

Site Assessment

I check your roof, obstructions, cable runs, and sky view before anything goes up. A clean line of sight north is essential — I'll confirm yours is clear.

--dish-mount

Dish Mounting

Professional mounting on roof, wall, or pole. Weatherproof cabling run internally where possible, sealed and tidy where not.

--router

Router Setup

Starlink router configured and positioned for best coverage. If your home needs extended range, I'll set up a mesh network at the same time.

--network

Full Network

All your devices connected and tested — computers, phones, smart TVs, smart home devices. Everything on the new connection before I leave.

--testing

Speed Testing

Full speed and latency tests once the dish has acquired satellites. I won't sign off until it's performing properly.

--handover

Handover

Walk-through of the Starlink app so you can monitor your connection, run diagnostics, and manage your plan yourself going forward.

// Common questions

Starlink FAQ

Not necessarily — renters can often get approval from their landlord, and there are non-penetrating mount options for people who can't drill into a roof. I'll assess your situation and suggest the right approach.

Usually 2–3 hours for a standard install. Larger properties with long cable runs or mesh setups take 3–4 hours.

Starlink needs a clear view of the sky to the north with no obstructions — trees, chimneys, and hills all affect performance. I run an obstruction check before committing to any location.

The Starlink Gen 3 kit uses a standard ethernet output, so you can connect your own router. I can set this up during the install if you have a preferred router or mesh system.

Performance depends partly on Starlink's network load and your local geography. I'll run tests during install and position the dish for best results. If issues persist, I offer a follow-up diagnostic.

Yes — I cover the wider Mid Canterbury area. Travel charge may apply for properties more than 30 minutes from Rakaia.
